Veritas File System question

I've installed veritas file system on a system with existing file systems.

Ive converted all my non-system file systems from ufs to vxfs without problems, except that I had to fsck them before they could be mounted.

I would also like to convert the /opt filesystem but I'm wondering if that's going to work as veritas is installed on /opt.

Can I convert the /opt filesystem as well or am I going to crash the system ?

I'm using veritas volume manager to encapsulate and mirror my boot drive

dandan123;

If opt is part of your boot drive then the volume will be created for /opt when you encapsulate.

I am not 100% positive but I believe you are suppossed to encapsulate the boot drive before createing any other Veritas Volumes. I am not sure what happens if you encapsulate boot drive afterwards. Maybe someone can second this, or correct me if I am wrong.

I have always been told that Veritas encapsulation of the boot drive is really not the best thing to do. People complain that it is difficult to recover from corruption.

I have seen people use SVM to mirror the boot drives and then use Veritas for their other filesystems.

Thanks

I know that (ie using SVM for the boot drive and Veritas for others) is what daFranz has recommended in the past, if that's any help.

All I ask of you
Is make my wildest dreams come true

Sorry I wasn't clear.

I installed Veritas Volume Manager and the boot drive which contains /opt was encapsulated.

Later due to performance issues I installed Veritas File System and converted all the other filesystems which were not on the boot drive from UFS to Vxfs.

Now I would like to convert the /opt filesystem to Vxfs and I'm wondering if this is going to cause problems as the Veritas binaries are on the /opt filesystem.

I hope I've made it clearer now.

TIA

ok I understand your question now but unfortunatley do not have an answer for this as I have never done this.

Thanks
