Please help!!!!!!
I am using veritas 8.6 backup exec, with a dell powervault 110t, dlt vs 80 tape drive. It is a brand new tape drive. There are no errors in the device manager and all of the components are using veritas drivers. Veritas finds the tape drive but says that it has bad media in the media tab. It says that all the tape drives ive used have bad media even the brand new ones....the error messages tell me that the drive is having a problem with the host interface. I even rebooted the server and still no fix. If i run a job, the job runs for about 10 seconds/fails/and puts it on hold. I currently have a job running for 35 hours with no tape in, i aborted the job but it still runs.

Have you 'labelled' your media? Right-click on the tape and chose the option for Label Media.

From your comment: "...drive is having a problem with the host interface" it's sounds like there might be a problem with the SCSI interface between Veritas and the library. Have you rebooted the tape library? I had a problem where my DELL tape library (136T) and Veritas were 'arguing' over which was in control. I ended up having to reload the Veritas drivers. It didn't show the same error you are getting (bad media), but it might solve your issue. The only times I have gotten 'Bad Media' it was solved by labeling the media.

I had exactly the same problem with a different drive. I never did figure out why I got the first message that said bad media. Every tape offered the same message until I rebooted. Then all the tapes were magically good. If rebooting is not a good idea try stopping all the Veritas services and restarting them.

Good Luck, you'll need it!
