One of my clients keeps getting this message just lately and his backups keep failing:

Storage device "ARCHIVE 0" reported an error on a request to write data to media.

Error reported:
The semaphore timeout period has expired.

I got some technical notes from veritas that didn't seem to solve the issue, is there anything anyone can offer to help fix this bug please?

Could be that the drive is failing. Did you install the most current drivers? Also check the SCSI settings on the server, as well as the cables.

Also update to Backup Exec 9.1 with latest drivers.
That error has been changed in 9.1 to reflect a more freindlier message. But Tahoe2 is correct. Most likely bad tapes or failing drive. Check your System log for event id 7, 9, 11 - there are technotes on veritas on this
