The tape drive has been working fine for the last year - all of the sudden on Thursday afternoon, the backup fails. I looked at the error message, saw why it failed, fixed the problem. (corrupted file) On Friday, the backup did not run. It said "Tape Drive Paused" or something to that effect. What can I do? I have tried reinstalling the tape drive drivers and restarted the server. All of the lights to the left of the tape drive are lit - orange lights. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

MistyG,

I have had the same problem.

This was caused by a defective tape drive.

I had our supplier swap it for a new drive and the problem was gone.

This is how I have had success in bringing a drive back online without the need for a reboot.

It seems that Backup exec sometimes does this because the tape is faulty so…. eject the tape and put in a cleaning cartridge.

Then from the Veritas Backup Exec Program window, select the Devices tab.

Right Click the drive and select properties.

On the Cleaning tab, click the Reset Cleaning Statistics button.
Then select the Configuration tab.

Select the Pause device tick box and click the Apply button.

De-Select the Enable device for Backup Exec and Pause device tick boxes and click the Apply button.

Select the Enable device for Backup Exec tick box and click the Apply button.

Click the OK button.

All should be well with the device now.
