a nt4 domain with win98 clients
serv pack 6a

i had veritas seagate backup 7.2 running fine for about 1 year then it corrupted .....(now the fun bit)

i have renamed the folder from Seagate Software to 1Seagate Software, to keep previous installtion reports & data files safe.

im now trying to install the above product again half way through an error reports " backup exec 7.x Naming Service failed to start" the choices are

(1) retype the user name and password
(2) exit installation

so this is what ive done so far.

tried to uninstall it but an error reports to say that a dll file was damaged Hence it could not be uninstalled.

i went to services in control panel to see if i could start the backup exec 7.x Naming Service and it started with no probs... (strange but true).

i have created a new user account for seagate with administrator status and configre the backup exec services but the install program still complained.

i have contacted veritas but they say 7.2 is no longer supported and i would need to download the upgrade to make it 7.3 (wait for it) BUT the catch is i can not load version 7.2 so i guess no help there.

is there anything else i can do EG delete the actuall services for seagate? ......

here are some errors in the event viewer i hop they can help

(a) The server {6EE7E990-8CBB-11CF-BF69-080009B4DB7F} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.
error 10010
(im no sure if thats to do with seagate)

(b) event id 7022
The Backup Exec 7.x Server service hung on starting.

(c) event id 7001
The Backup Exec 7.x Job Engine service depends on the Backup Exec 7.x Server service which failed to start because of the following error:
After starting, the service hung in a start-pending state.

(d) event ID 7023
The Backup Exec 7.x Job Engine service terminated with the following error:
Server execution failed

PS the strangest thing with all these errors are
thier is no mention of the Naming Service fail to start
error 15
