I've recently taken over a job where the previous Network admin didn't do the job he was hired for. With this in mind, I've found out that maybe the veritas software that was installed isn't working correctly and wondering if anyone will be able to help me. We are running three servers, a DC, terminal, and file server. the Veritas is running on the terminal server, which i don't like, because the backup harddrives are USB which people that log in using remote desktop can see that a usb device is installed.

Second, my question is that if i install the veritas software on the Domain controller, will there be any problems? Also, is there a way to transfer the data from the terminal server to the domain server. They both are running windows 2003 standard server. Our file server is running windows 2000 server. If i choose to put it on the file server, i thought that it would pose a more difficult problem because it is rolling back to another OS.

Also, we are having problems with the backup too. When i do a fresh format of the USB harddrive and backup to disk, it works fine, but if i use the Same harddrive for the next week backup, it errors out with either queing for over 20+ hours with no data written or it states loading media stage without going on. I have put in the preferances to overwrite media and in the media set, i have put 1 week for the overwrite protection period? Is there something that I am missing?

Thanks in Advance

Veritas is installed on our DC and we never have any issues. You will need to use Remote Agent to transfer data from the other servers to the DC.

Do you write to the USB hard drive for backup purposes?

I have no experience with backing up to a disk so can't help there i'm afraid!

To answer your question for the USB drive. Yes, we backup to the Hard Drives that are connected by USB. They are Maxtor One Touch Drives.
