I have just recently upgraded one of our servers from NT to 2000 and I had to reinstall Veritas 8.6 Backup Exec on it. I have just been hired into this position and have never used Veritas before and there is no one else here who knows how it works either. I was told that I needed to recatalog the tapes so that it recognizes them and gets all the information from them again. How do I do this? Also, once they are recataloged, how do I view the information that is on them? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, in advance.

Pop the tape in question into the drive.
Open BackupExec and select the devices tab.
Right-click on the tape drive and select "Catalog".

A job should start immediately on the Monitor tab.

Inventory the tape(s) first. (Right click on the tape and select Inventory).

Inventory lets Veritas know what tape is in the drive (or slot if it's a library).

Catalog lets Veritas know what backups are on the tape.

When the catalog is done, go to the RESTORE tab and the tape(s) are listed there. Expand the tape (click on the plus sign) and you will be able to see what the tape has on it.
