Hi !

Please help me :

I have Veritas 8.5 under Windows NT 4.0 SP6a.
It worked fine witch a HP DDS3-Changer.
Now i replaced the changer with a DDS4-SingleDrive
( HP C5683A ) and installed the hpdat.sys.
The drive works fine with ntbackup.exe !

The problem :
I can't access the drive under Veritas.
I tried to install with tapeinst.exe with drivers from
Veritas over the hpdat.sys
I tried to install with tapeinst.exe with drivers from
Veritas with no windows-driver loaded
I tried to install without drivers from Veritas.
I re-installed Veritas...
I tried to ...
I tried to ...
In all cases i didn't saw the drive when opening the TapeDrive-Assistent in Veritas.
Then i took the drive in a test-machine, made a fresh installation of Windows NT SP6a, installed the hpdat.sys, installed Veritas 8.5 and all worked fine.

My question :
What can there be wrong with the installation on the machine where the drive didn't work.
Any drivers, *.inf-files, registry-keys, ...

Thanks for all help...

P.S.: Sorry for the bad englisch, writing from germany :)

Uninstall Backup Exec and then re-install. Its a messy solution I realise but I do this every time I change a drive!

Before you reinstall, try the following:

When you remove a device physically, you need to disable then delete the device in Devices tab in Backup Exec or you get what is happening to you now....the old device is still persistent in the pvl.mdb database.
For a solution, you have two options:
1. Follow this technote to edit the pvl.mdb (Access 95 database) to remove old hardware info but still retain media sets, media labels, etc: 2. Replace your pvl.mdb by following the instructions in this technote:
