Verify very slow HP Ultrium 1

A backup with the HP Ultrium library has a thoughput of 1200MB/Min on the local server. If I do a verify (scan media contents), it's throughput is only 24MB/min.

It's just a CRC check. The hardware is a CPQ DL380. The Ultrium is connected to the embedded Smart Array controller 5i

You should not have your tape drive off of the raid controller. Spend a couple hundred bucks for good scsi controller and you will see a huge speed increase.
