Verification time excessive

Backing up data for 6,776,889,651 bytes takes 1 Hour, 7mins. Verification takes 1 hour 3mins. (Normal Backup)

Backing up data for 5,283,630,903 bytes takes 48mins. Verification takes 4hrs 6mins. (Normal Backup)

Backing up data for 2,447,549,230 bytes takes 22mins. Verification takes 2hrs 5mins. (Normal Backup)

Backing up data for 497,378,307 bytes takes 5mins. Verification takes 20mins. (Copy Backup, System State)

These backups are done nightly and although backup times appear normal the verification times seem excessive.

Has anyone else had the same kind of problems? Any help greatly appreciated!
