Vector text question

Hello

I have the trial version of Corel Photo Paint 7 and I am trying to create a piece of text in vector format so that I can resize it, if necessary, without it becoming pixelated.

How do I begin, please? Do I create the text in Corel Photo Paint 7 and save it in SVG format, and then export it? When I have tried that, Photoshop doesn't like the SVG format - unless I am doing something wrong.

Basically, I have a JPG created in Photoshop but the text part, which will be layered over the JPG, I prefer to be vector.

Thanks for any advice.
