Is the VCX more reliable then the NBX/SuperStack? I see a lot of small problems with the 4.2 and 4.3 version of the NBX. I was able to go to the Marlborough office two weeks ago and talk about 3Com's future. Is anyone currently running the VCX platform?

Highly questionable.

Yes- there are still a lot of issues in 4.3.3

I would not compare the two though. NBX was not designed as a SIP platform.

VCX looks ez enough to install:

But so did the NBX.

Maybe ask the new guy at 3Com: Peter_Brockman@3com.com You may get a marketing answer though. Ask him how many customers he has on VCX and who they are.

Then you could ask the Lumber Man if he's on the VCX or is it really a SS3 that he's running...

Caveat Venditor

So your original question: Is anyone currently running the VCX platform?

Read the Case Studies carefully. Once customer running the NBX/SS3 with the "intention" of moving forward to the VCX.... Airport Personnel will have access to IM from the VCX....

My CFO cannot tell me the name of the system we are currently using. It is on the side of the phone on his desk. One question that my boss ask was does the CEO of 3Com have a NBX phone on his desk.
Cisco's CEO has two phones on this desk an IP and a Nortel.

Yes- been to Marlborough office too and there's more than one phone on many desks...Most NBXs are in LABS/Tech Support.

I have not found one VCX site (non 3Com internal site) yet- rumored to be in my "hood" but and if there is one, it's likely under non-disclosure until ALL the major BUGZ are worked out. 3Com is on a major media campaign ... currently running ads about SIP/ VCX and all the benefits of such. In Europe it (VCX) was delayed...but that's old news.

Here's the individual links to the Case Studies..

Well that is what I thought. SIP is nice but I think they talked about SIP no matter what subject we where on. Is SIP a true standard? Is there guides for SIP?

SIP - Session Initiated Protocol "Standard".

Glad you asked the question earlier: Check out BCR, pages 35-38 "Enterprises are Dinking the SIP Kool-Aid and Buying It Too" by Steven Guthrie, October, 2004 Issue (sitting on my desk)
Anyway- Northwest Properties "is now installing SIP Based 3Com VCX V7000.. they sound like a beta site mentioned in this article. Contact is Sean McRae. One install noted is in Clackamas Oregon....go Beaverton !!!!

SIP (IMHO) does offer promise. Application, Application, Application. For example - PingTel has a Phone with an app that gives hotel guests access to the Menu, Room Service, and other hospitality features such as the weather, news, etc.... all from the phone. The interoperability is what probably is equal to the applications. In the overall scheme of things- will SIP enable TELECOM or disable it ? Meaning, what level of complexity will it bring ?

This is the first known KILL to me, on who has the VCX, but then again, there's probably more locations and my guess, my gut... tells me too LOOK at Nevada County, CA. I don't get out much.

All the major ITSP's are using SIP at the core of their softswitches.
A few examples:
Vonage
Broadvoice
Net2Phone
OneConnect

Some vendors producing SIP:
Nortel MCS
3Com VCX
Mitel
Asterisk
Allworx
