I have a customer with an IP500 at 5.0 and the Lic card has Standard to Prof and Pri Lic on it.
We are adding IP Phones in another state that will be added as users to this IP500 via ATT IPFlex.
Can I just install a VCM legacy card in an open slot or do I have to purchase "endpoint" lic. to existing card for them to work?

5.0 does not have endpoint licenses but 6.0 and up do.
VCM channel licenses are only needed per used VCM channel.
How many IP phones do you have and how many licensed VCM channels do you have (including the basic 4)

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

We are only going to have 3 IP Phones. The problem is that from what I am being told from my Avaya Vendor, is that it is hard to get Lic added to the existing card without upgrading to the latest and greatest.

You need to be a bit more clear :)
How many IP phones do you have now?(including IPDect)
How many VCM channels do you have? (licensed)

Adding licenses is not that hard but i guess they are trying to tell you that these VCM channels licenses are end of sale and you need to upgrade because of adding IP endpoint licenses :)

So be generous with the info and tell us as much as you can about what you have.
This way i can tell you what the best option is for you.

My bad....LOL
I have NO IP phones and NO VCM Lic now.

Do you have a VCM card in the system?
If yes then you have 4 VCM channels by default.
If no then try to get a hold on a VCM 32 but these are end of sale.
If you cannot get hold of it then you need to buy the new VCM32v2 but then you need to upgrade to 8.1 or 9.0
But then you do need IP endpoint licenses per IP phone.

I do not have a VCM card now. I do have a VCM32 Legacy card that I can purchase now.
My only concern was that I had to have a Lic added to the IPO for that card.
So you are telling me that I do NOT need it for 5.0 and it will work?

VCM32/64 will give You 4 Virtual VCM channel license on R4-R5, on R6+ it will give You 12 Virtual IP endpoint license.
Either way it will work. You might have to add licenses depending on how many more VCM / IP endpoints You need.
You do not want the VCM32/64 V2, it will not work on R4-R5. If You use VCM V2 on latest release You will get no IP endpoints!
