VBWinsock.dll Missing

Built a new PC over the weekend running XP and transferred one of my old programmes to it from anothe XP machine on which this programme has been running 24/7 for several years.

The programme uses VBWinsock.TCPIP but when I try to run it on the new XP machine it complains about VBWinsock.dll missing. So I checked the source code and in the project references it shows VBWinsock as (MISSING).

So I copied VBWinsock.dll from the older XP machine to Windows\System32 on the new machine and it's still listed as MISSING in project references. So I tried rebooting the PC but I still have the same problem. The dll is in the correct folder but VB can't see it!

What is VBWinsock.dll? It isn't a standard DLL (which would explain why you didn't have it on your new machine) - and you can't just copy an ActiveX DLL onto a new machine and just expect it to work. It needs to be registered. And even then it may not work, as there may be further dependencies ...

Anyway, to start with google for registering activex dlls.
