I've been meaning to learn some form of scripting for a while now but with the introduction of Powershell I'm not sure whether to put my efforts into Powershell or VB script.

I've downloaded powershell and played with some examples from Microsoft's web site and found it easy to get going with.

Can one be used in place of the other or do they each have their own benefits/features??

I work as a network admin/systems engineer.

Any advice gratefully received

If you found PowerShell easy to learn then go with that. It offers many things that VBScript does not.

VBScript won't be going away any time soon. So it would not hurt to know it anyway. PowerShell can even run VBScripts.

For me, I still need to do development in VBScript because PowerShell isn't loaded on every server/workstation yet. If you can control that in your environment then I'd go with what you find easiest to learn.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Mark

Thanks Mark, I'll work on getting to know Powershell.

I can always use your faqs and the vbscript forum for any VB stuff I need :)
