I use the F8 key when debuggin my code.

Recently rather than stepping into lines of code it toggles on and off a semi transparent blue screen with two gears on it.

The "Debug/Step into" menu still works but it obviously is very time consuming.

Are there any suggestions what has happened and/or how I might get rid of this pain

Cheers

I'm assuming you have the Yahoo Widget Engine installed and running right?

The key in that program to toggle your desktop so you can see what widget's are running is F8, and it catches pretty much all F8 presses.

I would suggest you quit the Widget Engine and that will solve all of your problems related to this.

Hope this helps

Super!!!

I deleted Yahoo Widgets Engine. It took a reboot to take effect.

Thanks

Glad to help [smile]

Hey OlderGuy, you could always show you appreciation by thanking HarleyQuinn with a star. I'm giving HarleyQuinn a star, as I would never have guessed that.

Cheers, Glenn.

Did you hear about the literalist show-jumper? He broke his nose jumping against the clock.

Thanks Glenn, much as we deny it, stars are always nice [smile]

It's one of those things that would be pretty impossible to guess but easily remembered from when I had to work out what it was on my own machine [wink]

Again, thanks for the star [smile]

I am truly appreciative for the answer and for the advice.

I didn't understand the star system

I have no clue what the Yahoo Widgets Engine is - nor any great desire to find out - but that is one to remember, and worthy of a star.

I have seen a couple of threads here recently about using low level key hooks and here is a wonderful example of the kind of problems that can be caused when they are used. As a general rule it is bad form for applications to behave in a way which interferes with the normal running of other applications - although there are circumstances where it is unavoidable.

Enjoy,
Tony
