basically i want to build into an office document (preferebly word) a bit of vba so that the people running the document can communicate across a network with a instant messenger style interface.

(no need to worry about the interface, i would appreciate if anyone could give me the basic code for the framework of it)

sorry, i got myself very confused in a rush. i figured it all out now. basically im trying to make an office template that is used by all the users on a network (LAN)include a very basic instant messaging system so they can communicate with each other. Im making it for 97/2000.

Does that mean you don't need help?
Word doesn't come with an instant messaging system, nor does the entire Office suite--at least not in Office 97, so I'd forget some kind of *correlation* between the two.

However, you can use Yahoo instant messenger or Netmeeting...
