VB6 - Datagrid BeforeColUpdate not firing

I have a form with databound (ADO) datagrid.
In the grid I have some columns set up as combobox.
When I enter a value in the first column (combobox) and hit TAB to go the next column the BeforeColUpdate event doesn't fire.
If I change from the combobox-columns to normal columns the event fires. Is this a bug or can I do something to get the beforecolupdate event with my comboboxes ??

I have the same problem when a column I set up to be a date column !!!

Anyone know about a workaround ???
