can anyone advise on the best way to connect to a remote computer from VB6 without operator intervention. Can windows dialup networking be called. If the dialup connection already exists how can I 'find' if a computer name eg //APC exists and list the shared folders.

I know tis might be a big question. but I have looked everywhere I know on the net and no one seems to have written much on this. These is lots about winsock and tcpip but i suspect that is a lower level than I need to get into for this.
There are many factors that stand in your way (for good reason), permissions and more. You're right. It's a "big question".

Try narrowing your focus. Big questions can't be answered (eg. What is the meaning of life?). Little questions (eg. how many fingers do I have?) can be guessed easily (no warranty, expressed or implied).
Little questions are much more our forte. Start from the beginning and work your way to an answer.
