I have Visual Basic 6 installed under Windows 98 and have been developing gaming applications for about 2 years without any problems. These all use the ActiveMovie control for sound effects. Yesterday I downloaded and installed Internet Explorer 5.5. It seemed to work fine.
A couple of hours later I went into the VB development environment and tried to run one of the games. However it failed to run and gave the error
VB System Error &H800040005(-2147467259)
I don't know what this means but I noticed that the ActiveMovie control looked different as it now had colours that I had not noticed before. I removed the ActiveMovie control and everything worked fine, except no sound effects. I added the control again and the same error occured prevented me running it.
Can anyone suggest what the solution is?
I posted the question on the Microsoft discussion groups but no replies. So I deinstalled IE5.5 using the Windows uninstaller, but the problem persists!
Any solutions?
I suggest developers do not install IE5.5 as they may hit this problem as well.
