Men, I got a huge trouble.
I was trying to run a VB4 (16 bits) project (very old one)so that i could change the code to do watever my boss wants!
I couldn't do it 'cause when i tried to open the something.mak i could read:
1)update the following custom controls in the project to their newer version? [i usual reply yes]
2)then, appears:
"license file for QPRO200.DLL not found. You do not have the appropriate license to use this DLL in the V. B. design environment.
3)and then some more things that could'n let me open the project.

Someone told me i had to install vb3 and convert the code to it and then migrate it to vb4 latter. Is it the best option?
Thanks !

Hi,

If the project was written in VB4 then there is no need to go back VB3. That's a certainty. It sounds like your custom controls mayneither be missing and/or their corresponding ;licence files are missing. t could also be that the custom controls are not registered. I'd suggest to do a search in explorer for the missing files that Vb reports. Check to see if they actually exist and are in the right locations. If not re-install the custom controls.

Have a good one!

You've lost the quickpak license file qpro.lic. Should be in windows/system

Ok, here I am again![marta]
The problem isn't solved.
O.k.:after all, the project is a VB3-origin one.
So, now, i installed VB3 [kind of hard to find] and then tried to run the project again.
Still not working.

I've been thinking if the problem could have something to do with the O.S. [i got windows 2000] and that could cause some troubles, right?
Another problem:
1)While working with VB3, i couldn't find how can i open the "custom control"!!!
2)I tried to open another project at the same time and i found out this stupid version of VB3 wouldn't let me, can i do it or am i just not finding the way to do it?
3)In the previous response petermeachem gave me, he said i lost the qpro.lic [quickpak license file ]. I searched my computer and i couldn't find it. How can i get it?

thanks a lot

The short answer is buy quickpak. If you are doing a 32 bit project, then qpro200.dll won't be of any use really as it is all 16 bit. If you are using Crescent controls, then you either have to buy an up to date Crescent control to replace it (I don't think they are Crescent anymore), or convert same to later standard controls, in which case you are likely to have to change quite a few bits of code as the Crescent controls have more properties than standard. Be warned if you just open an old project in a newer language, vb willl change everthing it doesn't understand to a picture box. I've been through this, so if you need more info mail me at peter@accuflight.com. It can be quite hard work.

PS. Can't think the OS will make any odds. But please think about what you are doing instaed of just installing everything you can find. You are liable to end up in a mess.
