I know that a lot of work is horses for courses, but overall which development environment is better? Visual Basic 6 or Delphi6

Kev

They both have there advantages and disadvantages. VB is Windoze only. So go figure.

There are a lot more components and help around for vb because there are a lot more vb'ers than delphi'ers. Nearly everyone uses Windows anyway, certainly in business, so I don't think that is important. Peter Meachem

Except for the fact that about 40% of web servers are running a flavor of linux now. Theres more to programming then just Windoze.

I wouldn't have thought that either Delphi or VB are particularly suited to running on web servers Peter Meachem

We have lots of back end programs (especially VB) that run services on our web server. But we are limited to using these just on our NT servers. Granted we can pass data to them from out Linux box through XML but that alot of overhead.

>40%

Interesting. Where did you get that figure from? I only ask because most figures bandied about in this area are usually based on the Netcraft surveys - conveniently forgetting that Netcraft counts sites not servers, an important distinction.

I have seen the around 40% in a few places. Most recently on (a great site for anyone who has never been there) also but they are M$ haters there so their numbers always lean towards Linux and FreeBSD. Also I beleive on IBM web-site there is an artical showing this as well.

It has been out for a while.

There is a free version available for writing Open Source code.

It is available for download at the Borland site.

There is a Forum Area for it here on tek-tips.
