VB using CR report template

I am exploring the possibility of using CR report as a template with unbound fields and no data source in VB instead of using the DSR file (ActiveX Designer format). From the documentation, it seems possible but I have not come across any examples. Would anyone have a sample code that you can share to perform the above?
