Hi,
I would like to know the system requirements for VB to run without any problem with memory. What is the ideal memory requirment for VB 6.0? Are there any additional settings required?

Also I would like to know, which files of Windows does the Setup program affect? What changes does it make in the registry?

It's a little jumbled but the following was taken straight from the Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 web site.
Of course the more memory and faster CPU the better it will run.

Microsoft® Visual Basic® 6.0 Enterprise Edition

Requirements

Standard Requirements

Memory 24 MB of RAM for Windows 95 or later (32 MB recommended); 24 MB for Windows NT 4.0 (32 MB recommended)
Hard Disk VB6.0: 116MB typical;135MB maximum
IE: 43MB typical;59MB maximum
MSDN: 57MB typical;493MB maximum
Windows NT 4.0 Option Pack: 20MB Windows95 or later;200MB WindowsNT 4.0
SQL Server: 80MB typical;95MB maximum
SNA Server: 50MB typical;100+MB maximum

Display VGA or higher-resolution monitor; Super VGA recommended

I'm not sure what system files are changed. Obviously the VB runtimes and so forth. As for registry entries, you might want to try using a tool like RegMon (available as a free download from It will monitor all access to your registry and allow you to go through the log to see what happened. Be warned that it logs ALL access, which means Explorer, the installer, etc., so you may have a lot to look through.

Incedentally, while VB 6 may only require 24MB of RAM, I'd recommend 128MB, which is what I'm using now. I used it with 64MB in the past, and while it is usable, its a bit slow, especially if you've got other things running in the background. I find that between 96MB and 128MB is just about right for my purposes.
