VB programmer new to Java (Complete Novice)

Hi

I am looking into app development for cellphones.

My Ericsson T610 supports Java (or so I've read), and I can get/download Java apps for it from the net.

What would I need to create Java apps like these....
I am extremely new to Java...Do i need a compiler, IDE....?? Where do I start

J2ME is the Java edition for designing mobile/pda etc apps :

But to be honest I doubt it is for the uninitiated in Java. You should really be fully comfortable with the core/standard edition before :
