I've been using a Win 98 platform for my application development with VB6 with the expectation that it will install with less hassel on Win XP or Win 95 platforms.

Is it time for me to move forward? Are there any advantages or disadvantages to developing and distributing my application from an XP platform?

I would recommend win 2000. I was developing on XP and everything seemed fine, but I had losts of small problems. For example compiling the project into an exe would not always work. Maybe it was the setup on my machine, I am not sure. Didn't have the time to figure it all out, deadlines, etc.. I switched back to win 2000. No problems since.

Thanks and Good Luck!

Zemp,

I had similar problems using XP home. Migrating to XP PRO seemed to resolve all issues but one. PDW seemed to produce an executable which installed quite nicely on XP systems, but caused many errors trying to install on Win 98.

I retired the PDW, and began using the INNO compiler. I am very happy with the results.

Appologies for gatecrashing. Is there a fast tutorial out there for Inno. I got lost with the Inno help. Seemed to need a lot more user work to get a project packaged. Maybe I was going down the wrong road (quite normal for me). Thanks, regards

It does take some time to get your first setup to work. I found it worthwhile.

I have not found any tutorial for INNO but they did have some examples to download and work from. Also used thier wizard to create a script. Found all the information that I needed and got the basic setup to work without too many hassles.

Searched their newsgroupos to find more specific information. So far I have been able to find all the answers that i have been looking for. But I also keep my setups as simple as possible.

Thanks and Good Luck!
