Hey,
I have a fairly complex Access database that has grown in both the size of the data it holds and the number of users accessing it. (I never intended to create this monster, but what can I say...) I feel like it is getting to the point I would like to upsize it to SQL server.
I'm aware there is an upsizing wizard, but how complicated will it be to actually get it up and running? Will I need a VB front end to do what my Access forms are currently doing?
Can anyone recommend any good books to get up to speed on this as well?
Thanks for your help!

I've imported several Access databases into SQL Server 2000 using the Wizard. It is very easy and straightforward. You WILL definately need a VB front end, but you should be able to continue using the Access reports that you've created. You can just call them from the VB front end.

Hackster,

What -EXACTLY- will "VB" provide? With particular attention to what will need to be converted from MS Access to VB, and what tools will facillate this conversion.

What is 'NOT possible' (or impratical - with some rationale) in MS Access / VBA?

[bolor]OIIIO[/color]What specific indications lead you to believe that switching from Ms. Access to SQL Server will improve performance / utilization of your application? What steps have you taken so far to improve the performance? Have you estimated the number of users for future time periods? Have you set up a process to archive 'inactive' data? Do you have growth projections on the recordcount for each of the recordsets? Is the db split? ...
