An application being distributed on several floppy disks occasionally has a problem where the setup program reports that it can't find the ST6UNST.EXE (Microsoft uninstall) file packaged in the last .cab From one use report, it seems that setup reports this error after reading the first disk, without getting to the second disk, which has the .cab with this file in it.

There are no long file names and there are no spaces in the name, which are the known bugs listed in the KnowledgeBase.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

better u dont create such distributed applications. Actully on creating an application in vb it creates a filename called setup.lst , u can open that file with the help of notepad. Ur setup.exe is installing with the help of this file.
if u find any error on installing (like urs ST6UNST.EXE) go and check that file in the setup.lst and in ur .cab file.

sometimes i follow one method, that is remove the error showing file in the setup.lst file and after installing everything. i will copy and put the file externally using regsvr23 or by other ways.

i hope this will help u

Thanks for the suggestion, but this is a commercial product and I can't have unknown users trying to do manual installations. With no pattern, I can't know what to try to do manually.

Most of the time the standard distribution package which was created by the deployment wizard works fine. There just seem to be random reports of problems that I'm trying to track down and eliminate. Everything seems to be properly referenced in the setup.lst file and this doesn't make any sense.
