I am trying to gauge what the average hourly rate for working with VB 5 & 6 is. I have a client that would like me to update and debug some code for him and I am unsure of what to charge him.

I have called some places around town and was astonished at their hourly rates. Anywhere from $75-$125 an hour.

My client's code is basically a front end to an access database. It is mainly used to enter in data and to generate reports. Usual stuff...

Can you weigh in on this for me so that I might gain some perspective on it?

The headhunters are going to ask for twice what they are paying their contractors so as a starting point you might ask for $37.50 - $62.50 per hour depending on your skills and what they are willing to pay.

Two strings walk into a bar. The first string says to the bartender: 'Bartender, I'll have a beer. u.5n$x5t?*&4ru!2[sACC~ErJ'. The second string says: 'Pardon my friend, he isn't NULL terminated'.

lol at your sig

My thoughts were to charge him $55 as I am solo contractor (for now).

thanks man...

If your competition is charging $75 and hour and you offer all the same benefits to the client then charge $75 - unless it is to your advantage in some way to charge less.

Frankly, if some in town are charging $125 an hour then I would show the client why it would be to his/her advantage to pay me $150. Depends on the town and the client but less than many people think.
