Variable data interaction with design elements

I am considering using PageMaker to design several statements containing variable data that would be merged from an external database. I want to include some images and other design elements such as lines and boxes. My question is, can the images, etc. be set so they will automatically move up or down on the page based on the length of variable text that is merged above or below them? Or can they only be placed at fixed locations?

Images can be placed inline with the text and will flow with the text. It is a bit more difficult to achieve exact image placement (impossible) using this method. Use the text tool to place the image from file, when doing this manually. I have never tried doing it with a merge, so I am afraid I won't be of much help there. When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.
