we are using SQL 2000, and I have a question about a varchar field. In varchar field I can only enter 1023 characters. Is this the limit of SQL??? Is there a way to enter more data?

Thanks

Charles

you can enter up to 8000 character, your data default setting may be the reason of limitation.

But if the table schema itself allow only 1023, then you couldnt enter anything exceed it.

If you found your result panal returns also partial of your result.Make sure your Tools--Options--Result have Max. character per column to be 8000 character instead of default 255.

Thanks for your reply, but I am still don't get it. I set up a varchar field with a length of 8000 and put x's in the field until it would not let me put anymore. I ask for the length of that field and it was only 1023. I don't understand why it would not let me enter more than that. You said maybe my data default setting was the problem, but I am not sure where to find the data default setting. I have clicked and right clicked on everything from the enterprise manager to the query analyzer and can't find anything. I even tried using a text field which allows up to 2 gig, but the length was 1023 also. According to what I have read, it sounds easy. Just set the length to 8000 and enter data. What am I missing?

Thanks

Which version of SQL Server are you using?

How are you viewing the results (Query Analyzer, some other front-end)?

Is the database a third-party product?

Is there a trigger on the database (might be limiting input to 1023 characters)?
