valid TCP/IP address???

We recently recieved out IP addresses from our ISP, but are running into many problems with them. Our server rejects the IP as not valid, and someof our DNS replication appears to be off. The technician at HP claims it isnt valid either. Can anyone speak to the validity of an IP address 209.211.255.xxx with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. The concerning part, at least to me is the third octet of the IP. I've been looking though RFC's that address this issue, but i havent found anything that indicates we should be having problems.

Thank you for your quick responses, though i dont knowhow clearly the questions was addressed. Regardless of subnet, is 255 a legal octet in an IP for specifying a HOST?

An IP address consists of a network portion and a host portion. The distinction is made on the basis of the subnet mask. Using a mask of 255.255.255.0 means the last octet is the host portion. As noted in Type C - N.N.N.H, 255 IS permitted in the third octet but not the fourth.
