VAL Board bit rate vs space 2

I hope one of you gurus can help!

I've got an ancient Definity switch with one VAL board. I urgently need to record quite a few more announcements and I fear that we are going to run out of space.

Now for a couple of questions:
1. Can I lower the bitrate?
2. If I can I lower the bitrate, can it be done without having to re-record everything?

take all 102 recordings that you have and copy them to a pc or server. use a program like GoldWave to do a batch processing where it can convert them to 32kbps bit-rate. or do them individually, your choice.

then delete/replace all the announcments on the VAL board with the new lower bit rate files. change all the announcement settings to 32.

newer systems also do 16, but i don't recall when that started being supported.

I can't lower the bit rate on my VAL board. I've got a TN2501AP HW03 FW009. When I try to lower the rate on an existing announcement the system refuses and tells me the VAL board must be 64bit. When I try to create a new announcement, it must be 64bit as well.

I've got the same problem that rockspop has. It says the board requires 64 bit. Does something else need to be run on the system to "format" the board?

I've got another issue with FTP on my system but I'll open a different thread for that...

i believe the board can only have one bit rate loaded at a time.

so all 64kbps files would need to be removed.

 
Compression rates
The TN2501AP VAL circuit pack and media gateway v VAL sources only support the
64Kbps compression rate. The Rate field defaults to this rate.


The variable rates were for tn750 boards.

display integrated will show all your valboard slots.
then, "list config board xxyyzz" to get FW for each
xx = cabinet
yy = carrier
zz = slot

Does this mean I can't do anything to get more than 121 seconds (minus overhead) onto the VAL board?

Now for another even n00bier question - how easy is it to add another VAL board?

Check the Customer Oprions screen (display system-paramaters customer-options). Depending on your software version, there are two fields that affect VAL Boards: Maximum VAL Boards & VAL Full 1-Hour Capacity. You may have to purchase the VAL Maximum Capacity option (if it's still available).

Please post your software version. Run the 'display capacity' report and look at the last screen. Copy and past that information here.

Adding a board is a piece of cake, if you have the rights.

Pop it in any slot with 100Mbps connectivity [could be tricky, I think you said you had an old Definity] and add the IP-Interface.
 
You may be able to recover some time by erasing .wav files that do not have an announcement extension in CM
