I have the following error on Contact store:

it is now 184 days since the last full database vacuum. ther recorder will perform a full vacuum the next time it is restarted. This may take some time . To postpone this to the follow reboot , clear the setting on the system settings.

I understand that i have to restart the server but could someone explain what the vacuum actually does?

Let me know.

Thank you

Contact Store uses postgresql, so here is a definition of it from them:
It does what a typical vacuum does; cleans up trash.

Thanks for your help, will this delete any existing recordings?

It's garbage clean up. The only records that will go away are the ones past your retention.
