I have just been made aware of the below problem when upgrading the OBP on either of the above Sun servers.
"OBP 4.16.1 and later allow for mixing of various Sun approved DIMMS. To allow mixing the various DIMMs the OBP needs to check the DIMMs to see what each DIMM has for specififcations to make sure that the configuration that is installed is valid and supported. When the system sees memory DIMMs that do not meet Sun's specifications for the server it reports this fault and powers the system off to restrict its ability to run with components that do not meet the required speeds to run in a stable manner."
Unfortunately I found out the hard way and have had a very busy weekend.
Moral: Don't trust your vendors..!! Don't buy grey kit.
