Hi all,

Meridian Voice Tech here, know only little about data switches.

I have a Meridain Voice system with an ELAN (embedded LAN)hub, with an uplink into the rest of the network for admin. Uplink is into a Baystack 460.

Problem is that my Meridian Voice system is getting Broadcast Storms from non ELAN networks and shutting down its ports.

Q: What is the best to isolate this uplink??
Would a seperate VLAN be good enough??

Is your ELAN routed (for OTM clients to access, etc)?

Is your ELAN on a separate network subnet? Almost sounds to me like your ELAN network and CLAN are on the same subnet.

VLANS would break up broadcast storms. If you have it connected to the 460 for administrative purposes, put it on it's own VLAN. Make sure the port your managing it from (on the 460) can talk to that vlan as well.

peace

ELAN is on 220.x.x.x range
TLAN / CLAN is on 160.x.x.x

so they are seperate.

The uplink is for OTM client/admin.

As long as something routes those networks (layer 3 device), configure your ELAN network as a separate VLAN (such as VLAN 2). Configure the PVID on those ports as 2. Remove from VLAN 1 entirely. Configure your uplink to the network as a tagged trunk as members of both VLAN 1 and VLAN 2.
