v.92 on-hold feature for client computers on network??

Hi, I actually just upgraded from Satellite internet to v.92 dialup. (Believe me, with all the problems we had, it's an upgrade.) I have the dialup going to one computer. Then from that computer, I have a NIC that runs to a Linksys wireless router. Then I have a laptop that is running wireless. Everything is working 100% perfect. The only problem I have is when someone calls, there is the v.92 modem-on-hold feature. On the server computer, it comes up with a display saying whos calling. I can't figure out how to get that to showup on the client computer. I've setup a VNC server on the server computer so I can control the server computer remotely and it's kind if a bandaid for the situation. But it isn't the right way. I was thinking to almost setup a Citrix Metaframe server would work. Then I could remotely share out the one application. But that seems a little overboard (and costly). Does anyone know anyway to do this with some software that is freeware or really cheap?

can't think of anything good - maybe you could use the windows messenger service for something useful?

The problem I have with the window messener service is that is Command Line based. I would need a way to feed the caller ID information into it. But the Caller ID is being displayed in a GUI interface. I could see that if it was a command line type interface, then I could just pipe the data into netsend or something like that and have it send a windows messenger message to my computer with the info. But because it's a GUI interface, I'm not sure how to do that. Any ideas?

not really - but I wasn't thinking about using caller id - perhaps something to alert you to check your citrix/vnc session to check who the incoming call is.

Ok, about two minutes ago, I figured out a way to do it. I just setup remote desktop sharing through the built in RDP protocol that is already built into Windows XP. I shared out the desktop upstairs, and unlike VNC, the sound goes through so I ear the sound of the phone ringing in the computer.

I have the same exact setup as you do (ics desktop sharing dial-up through a wireless router to the laptop). Dial-up is also on the same line as my phone. So I don't miss calls I have the v.92 modem setup to automatically disconnect from the internet whenever a call comes in. This make the phones ring normally. IMHO this is more conventient than using the modem-on-hold softare.
