We are running uucp over TCP on a WAN using a fractional T1.
We are getting loss of connection intermittently. "expect C ..."
Also where can I tune inet for the number of available sockets etc.
Is there a better uucico available that works better over TCP.
We are running AIX 4.1.5

fractional T1" do you mean that you share this line with other's?

My first reaction is that uucico and the rest of the old internet tools were designed to run - error free - over wet string and never mind a T1. I would suggest you talk to your telecoms provider and/or your WAN people - have a look at your router logs etc. I bet you a pint of good, warm, English beer that it's comms rather than uucp.

(I'm fairly safe betting beer in that I'm fairly sure you're thousands of miles away.)
Thanks Mike,
What our customer is doing is using a "Fractional T1", split up in 56k chunks to all of their store sites. The comm gear in question is "Micom 5kt pro's and 20k pros, that also send "voice" from their PBX's. I agree it must be comm but I was wondering if it is resources. As we have 20 AIX boxes uucping to a HO Escala AIX box. Doing pings I do see a certain
percentage of loss usually around 6%.

We are located in B.C Canada, by the way. -Better beer than
Mexican, but now almost the same living standards.

A 6% loss - if it's all the time - is a bit much IMHO.

I have some an automatic ping check to various hosts on our network - runs every hour - and it complains to me if it drops any packets at all.

There's quite a bit of tuning you can do - so I'm told - to TCP in terms of setting timeouts and such.
