Hello,

I was wondering what kind of network cabling is used in France ? I might have to be going to France to help setup a network and want to be prepared for all eventualities. I need to bring with me a box of CAT5e cabling and in North America I know it's UTP but I think I read from a Tek-tips messages saying that STP is used in European countries... Since I only have one weekend to do the job I need to get be fully prepared (cabling, jacks, nics...)

Thanks

Bootleg,

You should be just fine with Cat5e UTP. Most European countries support both standards and certainly I can source pretty much whatever I need within a day or two from my vendor in the UK.

For info, Alcatel is a MAJOR vendor of Cat5e and Cat6 cable in Europe and they're a French company so I'd hope you could get most bits and pieces you might need while you're here.

If there's anything specific you want to check or source, let me know and I can ask a French guy I know that regularly travels back and forth to check it out for you...

Hope this helps,

Hello HoinviP

Thanks for the info. I'm not going to need to go to France after all. The offices that located in a University and all the cabling will must be done by the University or something like that. I just need to setup our end in Canada and have the two connect to share data.

Thanks anyways
