Hello Don,

I am just wondering if there's such a utility that will help me find a fieldname. Do you know where is the CurrencyCode field located by any chance?

Thanks!
Eugene

There is a utility on my website that does this. The Macola Find-A-Field report.

The currency code field is in the database in several tables. How many depends on what modules you are using.

Don -

Do you have a resource that has field definitions and table relationships for all of the table sin each module in Macola ES?

Regards!

I can certainly find the field names in any SQL database, but not the table relationships. Exact doesn't even give out a document like this to my knowledge.

They are pretty good if you ask tech support a specific question about how to relate table A to table B, for a specific purpose, but I know of no all encompassing document for this.

If this exists, someone please show it to me.

Have you tried using SQL Profiler? I asked Exact support on tools that I can use, and one support agent suggests SQL Profiler. I just would like to get an input from you if you happen use it.

Thanks.
Eugene

I do use SQL profiler, but I do not like to use it, and I don't believe it will help you find fields or determine table relationships.

What exactly are you trying to do?

Don-

I would like to understand the logic behind the application in Macola (e.g. OE Module). Because how would I be able to do customization and affect the tables without knowing what Macola does on the background.

Any input or advise is much appreciated.

Thanks.
Eugene

In ES using the Table List screen, I believe you can search for a field name to see in what table it resides. Not sure how accurate it is, but I've used it as a quick reference. Not exactly what you are looking for....

Remington-

You still did not tell me exactly what you want to do, just generally.

Brutus' answer is very limited. For example, the field item_no is in the ES database 148 times. If you look for variations such as comp_item_no or cust_item_no this will rapidly increases.

It would take forever to do this with the table list. My find-a-field report will tell you this, but is not sufficient for what you want to do.

SQL profiler will tell you this, but it will take forever as well, assuming you can read and understand all of it.

You need to get SQL delta or a similar tool to do what you want.

Don-

You are correct. I don't have a specific task to do in Macola right now because I'm still trying to make things together. My initial problem I guess is how to understand the logic behind each module (OE for example). And I know that the OE module has links to other module as well. It is very challenging for me to affect a module without undertanding what goes behind the screen. And it seems that SQL Delta is my best bet. I don't want to get into macola customization without any idea of what lies down the road. I might bumped into a situation that might be very limiting.
So if you can give me some tips on where to start (on understading Macola's table flow) it will be a big help.

Regards,

Eugene

Macola ES is nowhere near as easy as Macola Progression was for replicating functions with custom code or external applications. The XML import can help, but I wouldn't try and replicate any function that creates financial distributions (PO receiving for example) as the gbkmut, amutak tables structures are difficult at best.

Eugene,

What do you mean you don't have a specific task? You are still trying to piece things together to what end?

Is someone paying you with no desired result in mind? You are trying to figure out Macola ES logic like some of us work crosswords or play sudoku?

I will be absolutely no help to you given these parameters.

Don -

I apologize if I send you the wrong message. What I mean is that I have no specific project doing a Macola customization right now. My main goal is just to understand what lies under the hood of Macola. As I have said, I can't customize Macola without solid understanding of how it works. I'll post a much more specific question next time.

Eugene

Eugene,

I apologize, my post was pretty harsh. Having said that the subject is too broad to cover here on tek-tips.

No worries :)
I think going to the Macola conference is also beneficial for personal interaction. Anyways, this forum is still great.
