Does anyone know a utility that can read a directory structure and record all the NTFS permssions applied through the structre by outputing to a file. then be able to reapply these permissions back into the dir structure if desired? thanks..

Use the Resource kit tool SHOWACLS
ex) SHOWACLS D: /S > drive_D.txt

Will extract all ACL info to the text file Drive_D.txt

Hope this helps.

I have used a couple of the tools from scriptlogic.com and really like them. I think one of theirs has this capability. It may be overkill for what you need but wanted to spread the word.

With Server 2003 SP2 comes the new iCACLs command. It can dump the permissions to file and then use the file to reapply the permissions to the same structure on another system.

Good Luck!
