I'm dealing with a system where the users are occasionally ending up with close copies of their mailboxes in the following directory: /usr/spool/mail/:saved
Once this happens, the next time the user runs mail, they'll be prompted to take action as follows:
You have an aborted mail editing session in
> /usr/spool/mail/:saved/jackd, as of Thu Jan 23 14:36:46 2003. Your
> system mailbox has not been modified since this file was created.

> A Append this file to your system mailbox.
> C <file> Copy the saved mail to another file.

This works fine. My question is how users end up in this situation in the first place. They can't seem to tell me, and I've tried to duplicate by aborting out of various mail functions randomly. So far, I've been unable to find any reference to /usr/spool/mail/:saved in any documentation etc... Thought someone on this forum might have experienced this before.
