Has anyone heard of or seen this?

Bought a USR software modem at Sam's to replace a fried one for a client. I've done this a lot of times, btw. Guy's running a Duron 700. Modem causes a blue screen everytime I try to dial or run diagnostics.

USR Tech Support tells me, "That's a known issue with that modem. It won't run on AMD processors."

Does that sound right? Or does he not know the solution and is trying to blow me off? I can't find any information to that effect on their website, which is pretty minimal.

Appreciate any comments.

I think this is possible due to a problem i had with a modem. I have been buying Rockwell chipset modems and installing them for some time now with no problem. I installed one in my new system (AMD t-bird on an AMD 751 irongate chipset board). When i tryed to connect, i got the blue screen. Everytime i tryed to access the modem, i got a blue screen.
I reinstalled it several times and nothing helped.
It might be possible that some intel based things just will not work on AMD based systems.

might not be any help to you, but it is close to your problem.

Actually it has nothing to do with the AMD processor at all as such works perfectly with the modems. It can be influenced by the motherboard chipset in some cases but in the vast majority of cases it is simply a driver issue. I've worked with USR for ages (hardware modems... winmodems are bad) and they are excellent. Rockwell however tend to be cheaper and less reliable :ie: Zoltrix etc.
