Hi

In a situation where there's 4 pc's running XP Pro, connected to a server (& the server is also being used as a pc) can the server also be running XP Pro, or should it run 2003 server, or Small Business Server.
If it needs to be running one of the latter ones, can you please tell me why

I know this probably sounds naive, but I have a client who insists she doesn't have to put 2003 server or Small Business Server on her server & I don't know enough about it to tell her she has to .... I just haven't seen XP Pro on any other servers

Thanks
Helen

It depends what you are doing. XP isn't a server OS so you won't see that on any real servers. You can't have a domain without a Server OS (2003) which means all security and authentication is local.

With only 4 PC's a workgroup is probably fine though. One computer can act as a file/print server meaning it just shares common files and printers but is still usable like you said. What are the objectives of the system and the client?

In addition, XP Pro will only allow 10 simultaneous remote connections in case your client is thinking about adding systems in the near future.
