A colleague of mine is going to Dubai and wondered whether there would be any issues with using his wireless xp laptop abroad. Obviously, he would be given the wep key etc. - that is not the issue. But are there any potential (technical) problems here? Thanks. (And yes, I do mean a normal wi-fi setup, not 3G or anything like that).

I've not used a WinXP laptop in Dubai, but I've never experienced any technical problems in connecting around Europe, Singapore, Hong Kong or Australia.

Sometimes a login page and other home pages appear in a foreign language, but that's not really a big issue.

I've always been nervous over wi-fi security in airports and hotels, even though - fingers croosed - I've not experienced anything untoward.

You may find that some VoIP services do not work and many, many websites will be blocked.

And remember to clean you HDD of any ahem *research* pictures or movies you may have, unless you fancy a long jail sentance, or worse.

Respect local laws, they will be a lot stricter than you are proberbly used to.
