I have many Access apps in my workplace. Instead of using MS access tools to login, is there a way to use the windows login id to control permissions to the apps. I want some users to be able to view while others the ability to modify data. Also I want to use the login id to identify who modified the record,is this possible? Any help appreciated.

Thanks!!

Environ("username") will give you the logged in user.

The best solution I have found to conrolling access is to use Access security to specify permissions with groups. Then create a workgroup file for each group (be sure to use the same group PID).

Finally put each workgroup file in a folder granting the appropriate users permissions.

Distribute shortcuts with command line switches to open the database with the correct permissions.
