Using Visual Basic to "Log On/Off Server" in Crystal 8.0

My apologies ahead of time if this question is extrememly elementary ... To be sure, I did spend a considerable time searching for previous posts on this subject but couldn't seem to find an answer to the following question:

What I'm trying to do is use Visual Basic simply to "Log On/Off Server" to an ODBC data source for a Crystal report.

I'm guessing this task is possible, since VB is fairly robust; however, not sure where to begin to look for info. Thanks for your time.
