Using variables for imags

This may have been discussed here before - I am new the the group and the keyword search is "down for repair", so...

I am designing a web with a photo gallery. What I want to do is have a frame of thumbnails and another frame with an enlargement. I want to create ONE page for the enlarged photo and pass a variable to that page from the hyperlink on the thumbnail page upon it's loading. Is this possible or do I need to create a separate enlargement page for each photo in the gallery?

Have you tried creating two pages, one with thumbs, and one with larger versions, then just make a hyperlink from the thumb to the larger? You can hyperlink to the larger page, with a bookmark of the pix. It should be really easy.
