Hi ,
Perhaps a simply question , but i'm not very familiar with tapes.

Does this kind of library can be managed entirely with aix commands without any other softwares ?
7 tapes can be loaded in this library , can I load/unload them with AIX commands ?

my purpose is :
- Load tape 1 during the day to save archive log
- Unload Tape 1 , load Tape 2 at xx:xx pm for to save part of database
- Unload tape 2 / load Tape 3 to save another part
- Unload Tape 3 / Load Tape 1 to be ready for saving archive logs again.
and be able to script the tape load and unload without to paying a tape management and backup software.

Thanks.

If I understand correctly what you wish to do then yes it can be done with no additional software.

What you need to do is put the autoloader in to sequential mode (this is done from the front panel). When this is done you should see a message in the autoloader lcd window something like "seq ready".

Load the first tape and put the other tapes in slots 2, 3 etc. After you have written to the first tape offline the tape (eg mt -f /dev/rmt# offl) and the next tape should be automatically loaded.
