Is there anyway to disable the forward slash / when connecting to Oracle. I would prefer to have to type in the username and password. I am running Oracle on SuSE Linux.
This method of logging into Oracle has to do with Oracle Corporation's strategy for allowing members of an operating system's privileged DBA group to connect to an instance that may be under "duress"/"trauma".
The only users that can use the "connect / as sysdba" method to connect to Oracle are o/s users that are already members of the DBA group. Even if you could force an otherwise-privileged user to use a username/password combination in conjunction with "...as sysdba", Oracle still shows them connected as "SYS", with "sysdba" privileges.
In direct response to your original question: No, I am not aware of a method to disable the "connect / as sysdba" login...You must manage it with o/s group privileges.

Good detective work...Somehow that had escaped my RADAR. Have a Purple Star for clarifying that feature.
